The conference is supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.

Being one of the oil and gas bearing regions, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug along with the other entities of the Russian Federation is forming basis for the state energy security as well as economic and political stability in the Arctic zone.

Currently, due to anthropogenic effects there are significant changes in the environment — depletion of natural resources and environmental pollution which damage the natural and socio-economic systems. Thus declaring 2017 the Year of Ecology by the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin has a reason behind it.

International research/practice conference “EUROARCTIC 2017 – Preservation of the environment in the development of the Arctic” is arranged by the Administration of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug together with Russian research institutes and territorial environmental authorities. The conference will be held in Naryan-Mar on October 26, 2017.

The Conference aims at giving a complex analysis of the current state of the Arctic environment, identifying the main environmental challenges, sharing experience in the use of new methods and technologies of nature conservation.

The following topics will be discussed in the course of the Conference:

— impact of economic activity on Arctic ecosystems and the issues of climate change mitigation;

— international (cross-border) cooperation, including on the development of a climate strategy for the European part of the Arctic;

— development of a management system in the field of environmental protection;

— traditional nature use and prospects for its development;

— environmental education and awareness.
